Roua Jafar (1989) is a Syrian multidisciplinary artist, graduated in Fine Arts from Damascus University in 2011, based in Amsterdam since 2016. Roua's artistic practice is deeply personal and autobiographical in nature.
Drawing inspiration from the ethereal nature of memories and the fluidity of past experiences, Roua's work encompasses a diverse range of artistic mediums. Symbolism is a central element in her creative process, allowing her to construct subjective and abstract documentation of her path.
Roua's artistic practice started with painting and traditional methods of printmaking. As her artistic interests evolved, she explored written and spoken word, installation, visual storytelling and performance art.
Roua's vision is deeply rooted in mythology, folklore, music, literature and nature. Through dream-like narratives, she reclaims power over her own history and invites viewers to embark on an introspective journey of self-discovery and contemplation. With her intimate and biographical approach, Roua's art serves as a conduit for the intangible aspects of the human experience, connecting with audiences from a vulnerable and emotional level.
